Six leading Akali factions dissolved to form a new party, the Shiromani Akali Dal-Amritsar, which wanted a 'Sikh State'.

4/1/1933Indian Air Force was established at Drigh Road in Karachi (now in Pakistan). Subroto Mukherjee and four other officers were inducted as pilots when the first Indian Air Force Squadron was formed. The first aircraft flight joined the Indian Air Force, at that time it possessed a strength of six RAF-trained officers and 19 Havai Sepoys (literally, air soldiers); its aircraft inventory comprised four Westland Wapiti II. A army co-operation biplaned at Drigh Road as the ""A"" Flight nucleus of the planned No.1 (Army Co-operation) Squadron.
5/1/1996International women's master Anupama Gokhale of Bharat Petroleum becomes the first woman in the history of Indian chess to win an all-India level international rating tournament with her bagging the Mohammed Hassan memorial title.

11/5/1950Faiyaj Khan, famous singer of Indian classical music, died.
10/29/1964Priceless and irreplaceable gems, including the famed 'Star of India' of 563.35 carats and 2.5 inches in diameter, were stolen from the American Museum of Natural History, New York, USA, in a daring burglary. An alarm system was discontinued years ago as was the all-night guard in the gem hall, both for reasons of economy. The jewels were uninsured due to high-priced premiums. There were other jewels too that were also robbed during this time.
8/29/1991Second operational Indian Remote Sensing satellite (IRS-1B) launched by a Russian launch vehicle, Vostok. It is still in service.
