Raja Ram Mohun Roy and Alexander Duff, in 1921 Scottish Church College, General Assembly s Institution was established with only five students, where teaching of the Bible took an important part.

3/21/1966Indian Remote Sensing Satellite (IRS-P3) placed into polar orbit. This carries remote sensing payload and an X-ray astronomy payload. Launched by third developmental flight of India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-D3) which is for launching 1,000-1,200 kg class of remote sensing satellites into polar sun-synchronous orbit. Still in service.
11/8/1919Madan Theatres Ltd. was founded under a Joint Stock Company at Calcutta. Their maiden venture 'Bilwamangal' was released on November 8, 1919 at the Cornwallis Theatre, Calcutta.
9/8/1962Chinese army infiltrated in the north-east border of India exceeding the Mac-Mahon line (Tibet-India boundary). This was the first ocassion of Chinese infiltration.
