4/13/1919Jallianwala Baug massacre. The great Indian tragedy occured in Amritsar which claimed 389 lives and wounded 1,516 activitists fighting for Indian independence. Early in 1919, the Rowlatt Act (Black Act) was passed. This authorized the Government to imprison any person without any trial and conviction in a court of law. This furious act was under the guidence of cruel Brigedier General R. E. H. Dyer and his 50 men troop. Michael O' Dwyer was then the Governor of Punjab who naturally defended the action. This day is observed as Jallianwala Baug Day.

7/7/1896The premier show of the 'Marvel of the Century', first cinema show India, arranged by the Representatives of French Lumiere brothers- Louis and August Lumiere, was held at Watson Hotel in Bombay. The regular shows, however, started from July 14, 1896 at the Novelty Theatre. This show advertisment appeared in the 'Times of India', carrying details of a film show to be held for the first time on Indian soil.
9/8/1965Pakistan commenced its drive into the Indian Punjab using its 1-armoured division with the aim to foreclose India's options north of the Beas-Sutlej river line, after foiling the southern most divisional attack mounted by 4-Mountain Division.
